I too thought the mid on the 3.6 changed to 'quasi-ribbon' (whereas on the 3.5 there was the standard round-wire). And they also:
* widened the space taken up by the mid-wires (so reducing the width taken up by the bass wires - 3.6 bass is not quite as deep as IIIa / 3.3 / 3.5 bass), plus
* they 'flipped' the bass/mid driver, so that the mylar was at the front (in contrast to the IIIa / 3.3 / 3.5).
Maybe yours is one of the change-over period between 3.5 & 3.6? Magnepan had the new mid driver dimensions, with mylar at the front ... but they hadn't yet switched to foil-wire?
