I am not experienced with the OB speakers like the Linkwitz, Emerald and Spatials, but I suspect the are not a match on overall SQ with the same price maggies, as some recent show goers reported. Their main advantages are that they are smaller and can be more sensitive. so require less power
As to class D, I have used NuForce amps myself and can attest to their great midrange. It offers better dynamics and clarity that puts some $5k SS high bias class A/AB amps to shame. But the top end is rougher and grainier than a KT120 and KT150 based amp. or class A SS. Deep bass is a problem for class D amps with switching power supplies as those require large capacitor banks to do the bottom octaves successfully, and those cost heavy funds.
