Actually, plastered-over walls made of straw bails, or walls made from stacked and earth filled old tires are very common building techniques used today in ultra low energy consumption homes. The technique seem to be quite popular hot/desert areas ... at least in the US. I've even seen empty beer or soda cans cemented together to form the core of the walls and then covered over with plaster or sheet-rock.
