The "flat-wire" re-do for the midrange seems like a reasonable idea, assuming it fits ok. As I recall the driver is not too wide and has a fairly large number of vertical wire runs. Someone at Magnepan could probably advise and supply the wire.
Going to the T-4a crossover spec may not be what you want, though. Between the 4 and 4a the midrange panels are different, and the bass panels also differ at least in sensitivity.
