Kent, I agree with your assessment that a reasonably well built amp should be able to drive the 63s. I have successfully driven them using a 20watt class A solid state Musical Fidelity A-1 amp and also using my Lafayette KT-550 (25 watts tube).
So, why do people object to using an 8-10 watt SET amp to drive the quads at modest volume (db) levels, say 88db loudness? Is this just folklore or is there real evidence that 8-10 watts won't produce 88db from the 63s.
