I really appreciate all of your input, and your patience in going over some basic stuff. In particular, the value of plants in audio never occurred to me before! A few follow-ups:

I have some limited flexibility in bringing the speakers in from the side walls. Is there any enthusiasm for the tweeter inboard configuration, if the speaker distance is on the wide side?

The tweeter attenuator is a good suggestion if the sound proves overly bright. I'll try it!

Regarding the possibility of powered subs, the Sphinx offers 1 fixed and 1 variable RCA output. I interpreted this as accommodating a single powered sub, am I wrong?
