RE: Reccomendations on staining wood side rails

The older style MMG rails look oversized to my eye. Get some half round 3/4" or 1" oak. Drill, countersink, black cherry stain then satin lacquer. I find this to produce an updated look in the old-style MMG.

Or get some wood bleach and start over with your rails. Test your stain color on the inside surface of a rail before committing to staining the whole thing.

FYI: I actually prefer the "Tympani 1-D" look of my SMGa without the rails.
