My experience/opinion:
Firing along the length of the room about 5' away from the front wall. Tweeters in or out is a preference thing and depends if you have a screen between. I prefer the tweeters to be around 6' apart as a good starting point, regardless of tweets in or out.
If tweets in, I prefer a toe-in such that the center of the panels crosses in front of you (in other words you'd be able to see the outside of the panels from your seating position).
Tweeters outside works better with very little toe-in IME.
Every room is different, have fun experimenting...
