My friend followed E-Stat's advice and emailed Roy. Roy is fairly busy - he makes appointments for work and his current earliest offering was four months out. His cost for repairs and refurbishing seemed very reasonable. My friend will have to desolder and resolder the boards and he might hire someone to help him, but it seems pretty straightforward if he chooses to DIY.
