I used a fairly OK Tannoy TS10 sub, but the Quads sounded better without taking the signal through the sub. They are that good. I second the suggestion to put a cap on the signal side before the power amp. Have even seen ready made cables with passive components built in.
If I need more volume, bass and stonking I connect my JBL L100s instead
