LOL, I can see you love their sound! You may not need to go that far. We can take it up later if you want but my MMGs take a beating before slapping. This is due to mods & tweaks. While testing, they have done 110db+ before slapping with some music, just the two MMGs. Some folks here should be able to help you along if you chose to tweak the MMGs.
Now, to your specific question, YES. I tried it with the only pair I own, years ago. So, just one channel. Awesome efficiency and "promising sound" when side-by-side, tweeters together. It works because of the wing effect (larger baffle = less cancellations) The 8ohm sum mattered little. It is workable but likely not an ideal approach. Still, had I had the room space to the sides -- and the money to burn on an extra pair -- I would have done the deed (bad DNA in the head that some of us here in the Planar Asylum have :-))
