There should be a HP capacitor in that circuit that you won't get thru - make sure you measure resistance across the ribbon to see if you have continuity. You may just have a bad cap/resistor or solder joint, which is a hell of a lot easier to fix than a break in the ribbon foil.
Maybe still under warranty too?
