That is the question, is it not?
My suspicion is that you can spend a buncha money, spend a lotta time and make an improvement your significant other won't hear.
The only "improvement" I am convinced of is raising the center of the speaker to ear height.
Kent, who rebuilds these things for a a living (?) says the Mye stands are the way to go, not wood, and I suspect he is right.
I emailed Grant Van der Mye to ask if it was possible to lengthen the legs of his stand to raise the speaker off the floor. We shall see what he says.
Again, raising them off the floor is a matter of taste. In my system I run the Quads full range, but below 45 hz I use a pair of 12-inch subs. I like the sound of the Quads up off the floor. With the subs.
