I carbon copy Mcmagman's first two paragraphs.I also use the XM44 in a two-way; I didn't want to go 3-way for fear of knowing it's hard enough getting '2' amps to seam, let alone 3! Although now I wish I had since I now own a pair 1K watt monoblock Emotiva, 400 watt mono blocks Emotiva and a pair of 100 watt tube amps.
In my 17x18 room 75db is enough for my ears but even at that level I feel there's plenty more room to expand. The key IMO is 'headroom' you can cruise at 65-75db's but you'll need some headway in case a cymbal crash or brass section gets loose on you.
I haven't blown a fuse yet (knock on Maggie's wood frame) although 80% of my listening is acoustic jazz which is fairly organic.
Although I like Pop music , hip-hop; even some rap, I leave it for my car (exceptions below).
-Tori Amos .... most of her stuff is recorded extremely rare; great voice too
-Nelly Furtado....great female voice, she sings and I believe writes her own music
-Fiona Apple....great female voice, good piano
-Hootie and the blowfish- great vocals, great recordings
