An audio buddy was sold a pair or DC300As to drive the Tympani III(A)s sold to him by a high-end Magneplanar dealer. I listened to them many times and the III-A sounded fantastic. I even loaned one of his DC300As (while he was making 'improvements' in his system) and I used his DC300A to drive the Bass panels of my Tympani 1C, and it performed perfectly my having experienced zero problem while using it. (I also recall having to use a particular adapter in order to hook them up). I had used that Crown in the place of a ARC D76-A, and whey back then when my hearing was up to snuff, I couldn't tell the sound two amps apart.
However I don't think we should overlook the fact the contemporaneous Maggies were more 'forgiving' than are today's breeds, so that the DC-300A more than merely served its purpose.
