In my opinion the most important thing is to stiffen and reduce flex in the pole piece, i.e. the metal panel which holds the magnets.
As the magnets exert force on the wires, there is inevitably a reaction force back on the magnets and thus exciting vibrations in the pole piece. These vibrations will both radiate sound and re-excite the panel acoustically as well as change the spatial distribution of the magnetic field.
I think this is the biggest weakness in the magnepan design.
I've heard about the 'hong kong' tweak which stiffens it with a dowel and a string, which seems ugly.
Now, if for instance, Mye stands invented a Turbo model which had some kind of horizontal cross piece and cantilever which pressed against the pole piece (for designs with rear pole pieces like modern Magnepans....) they might get quite a number of interested customers......
