I'm very familiar with 'lean' manufacturing. JIT is another term bandied about. Just In Time is a techique for NOT having lots of stuff around the shop, just what you are working on, with supplies for only a short time. You depend on your shippers, both to and from you.
I can't imagine how much and how awful the dust raised by the current operation of milling the frames causes. And yes, it must be in a part of the plant completely segregated from the 'finer' areas.
