In that price range you might as well try the Crown XLS Drivecore class D amp. Buy from a place like Guitar Center or Amazon, that has a 30 day return policy. It is supposed to take a few hundred hours of break in to sound best.
Just make sure you get the 1500 or above model, as the 1000 unit has lesser specs (more noise).
I tried one on my KEF monitors, and was surprised how well it sounded, compared to the other budget pro amps I have in the house (Mackie and Yamaha). But didn't keep it long enough to be properly broken in, as I needed the funds for a higher priority upgrade.
