I'm always amused when I read that people get all wrapped around the axle of audio with which end of the cap is connected to the load and which the source and THAN completely ignore inductor orientation when the magnetic field generated DOES interact with the other inductor. Too far for the effect? The inductors in the pictured crossover are only a couple inches apart. If they were somehow toroidal inductors, I could get behind that idea, but not plain coils.
Maximum effect will be in the region of crossover where both inductors are 'active' but will also play into the harmonic relationships in the AC fields. So, I'd guess you aren't safe anywhere + or - 2 octaves of the crossover.
I think Ric thinks the music 'flows' along the wires. I've always had a little problem with directionality in an AC circuit.
Too much is never enough
