Yes, you could have damaged the Quads transporting them. If, for instance, you twisted a panel putting it in your car, truck, whatever.
With speakers this old, speakers which were not built to space program quality levels when new, almost any kind of abuse is possible.
I have moved a pair of US Monitors in a car with succes, but I was extremely careful not to twist the frames. And the frames are significantly stiffer than the straight up ESL 63.
The old Arcici stands, for instance, put a huge strain on the frames of any 63 they were used on. Moving the speakers by sliding them around on the floor twisted the frames to the point damage was done pretty quickly.
So, in my opinion, not knowing how you moved yours, it is possible you did some damage.
All that said, it is also possible they did not work when you bought them.
And playing them with no power to the speakers can cause damage.
