There are other issues besides the length of my speaker cables. My listening position is rather anchored at 38% off the rear wall - with a riser behind the front row of seats. My subs are essentially where the 40% rule would put the Maggies. I'd be sitting less than 100" from the plane of the speakers - well, I could sit on the sofa.
Each outside edge is 15" off its respective side wall - limited by ceiling shape.
I hate to be resistant to experimentation, but I don't think my attempting the 40% placement is in the cards. When I ordered my speaker cables, I added a bit of wiggle room to the Cardas placement calculation. In retrospect, a little more wiggle room would have been a good idea, but I had no idea at the time. Regardless, there are other constraints that complicate the issue.
