RE: line level inputs

Sometimes you can effectively create a summed left/right output by directly "Y"ing two outputs together (without losing much separation) IF the output resistance of your source is high enough. In this case however, your Onkyo preamp specifications indicate a 160 ohm output resistance. If you connect left/right together you'll lose most all of your left/right separation going to your main amplifier.

I would suggest you create an alternative "Y" connector that has an approximate 2-3k resistor in each leg and let that feed your new subwoofer amplifier. That will give you a good summation of your main left/right outputs for the subwoofer feed but leave your normal left/right feed to the main amplifier in pretty good shape.

The best way to perform this would to using an active summing circuit, but a simple passive, resistor circuit should work okay.

Make sense?

Dave.
