RE: Could you suggest?

The simplest function generator I have seen is from Phil Marchand. It is Windows based but can be run on Linux with Wine.
There are several free audio measurement apps available for the iPhone and Android. dbVolume is an SPL meter with A/C weighting, fast/slow response and hold. It cannot be calibrated and I find it reads lower than my RS meter but it is fine for comparisons such as left and right output. Decibel 10th matches closer to the RS meter and can be calibrated but does not offer A/C weighting or fast/slow response choices. Again it is sufficient for most uses. You can also find RTA meters, function generators, etc. I don't have an Android but I am sure similar apps are available.
