He doesn't advocate not applying room treatments, only that normal furnishings should be sufficient to create an acceptable reverberation time (T60) in a typical listening room. If your room is atypical I think he would indeed suggest room "treatments." :)
Even the KEF LS50 exhibits the same 4.8db power response discontinuity as other monopole, closed-box systems. :) It fits in that same paradigm, but it's just a superior example.
