Whether it is better to exploit the acoustic filter of the open baffle or to relieve the bass panels of some of the bass load is the question. I think there are some obvious advantages to either approach. I doubt I will ever be able to figure it all out in my head without actually putting it to the test. Before I do anything I would like to equip myself with the ability to see the relevant impulse response to take some of the guess work out of it. That and actually sellecting the new sub-woofers. There are not very many dipole subs available and DIY may be necessary. I'm not commited to the dipole option but it makes sense to my fuzzy little mind. My current order of preference is infinite baffle, dipole then sealed box in that order. And infinite baffle looks like too much trouble, sooo...
