It should work. A folded baffle actually tends to have a more cardioid response pattern, since the path length from the opposite side is different from the front than it is from the rear. But I don't think that's a biggie. The real problems I think are the likes of reflections/diffraction/cavity resonances with the wings. Making it asymmetrical -- wing only on the woofer side -- can help by keeping things away from the tweeter. IIRC, that's the way Martin-Logan does it on the CLX. Another strategy some people have had luck with is making a small triangular wing down at the bottom.
With all of these, you may have to equalize the low frequencies, and check for problems in the mids, because when you change path lengths you alter the comb filtering that effects frequencies above Fequal (the point at which the 6 dB/octave low frequency rolloff begins). So experimentation is in order, maybe with some foam core.
