I nearly pulled the trigger on a pair of GMA Calypso's last year. They were being driven by 70wpc tube amps and sounded divine, especially on jazz & vocals. They did run out of juice on Rodrigo y Gabriela, but nevertheless sounded extremely balanced and music-first. I found it hard to listen to them for audiophile virtues because the music they played was so compelling. I consider that a very good sign.
I also like cones for deep bass. I supplement my Maggie 1.6's with a set of 4 SWARM subwoofers. Wonderful with Rod & Gab!
Anyway the GMA stuff just works!
