RE: How often do you see someone admit to that in an audiphile forum?

You know, I'm beginning to have a vague recollection of having read something about wet playback many years ago.

Vinyl does hold a pretty fierce static charge, but I've never noticed any arcing when a record is spinning with the volume down, e.g., blue flashes or pops. If there was an arc to the coils I'm sure you'd hear a pop from the amp. But I assume the cantilever, which is closest to the record, is insulated by the elastomeric supports and coil insulation (in an MC cartridge). So it would presumably have to arc all the way from the record to the coils, which would require a very strong field.
