RE: What was your best tweak or change?

I have two "tweaks" pretty much of equal benefit - but are major mods.

Triamping the Tympani IV. I had been passive biamping the Tympani using the stock crossovers, they sounded good, much better than my old Vandersteens and prior JBL Centuries. But it was just not loud enough and it was clear that detail was being muffled. The bass amp was clipping too - Bryston 4B NRB - and doing so all the time. I used initially, an Ashley 3rd order Butterworth crossover, and later a Marchand XM44. And now a combination of passive line level and active.

The improvements were: Bass, deeper, louder, far more detail. I even tried out the Bass panel alone and as a two way with the tweeter. Midrange detail was nearly as good as with the stock midrange and stock crossover. The stock crossover just compromised the mids so badly that the bass panel could do the mids on its own without a problem.
The tweeter became far clearer and there was newly found depth and an extension of width of the soundstage.

Second was replacing the midrange with a line array of Neo 8 drivers. Much better integration with the tweeters - I can't even say that I prefer the ribbon over the push-pull planar Neo8. It seems to have nearly the same speed as the tweeters. Better imaging, far more detail, waaaay louder even with small tube amps (mod Dyna III). Transients that can not be imagined on the original midrange. Soundstage depth and width are astounding, and images are natural and do not expand and contract with volume. Pianos are full sized and smack in front of me. On better recordings you can easily tell how deep the piano is and what kind of space it is in.
