RE: Here we go again. Ramping up to test Dawnrazor's Damping Tweak

It seems like I'll have plenty of it then (3x4 sheets). I'll only get one last chance to listen WITHOUT this stuff stuck on...because swaping on & off is out of the question. (That's positive thinking for you: that I will like it enough not to take it off.)

So, this evening I set the stage on equipment choice and began music selection.

I have 2 favored xover configs (one inverts panel polarity, the other does not). I am going with inverted partly because many people have it that way. Also, partly dictated by equipment choice.

The low panel will be driven by my old NAD 2200PE (usually the Denon receiver drives both the tweeter and low panel). The NAD is not as refined but it sure is punchy and more dynamic. I suspect that these qualities will make it easier to distinguish the important differences, mainly in the mid-lows.

The tweeter remains at line-level filtering driven by the Denon power amps. The Denon is also the pre-amp. The computer, with cPlay 35 (36 is too much of a new variable) will do the honors for upsampled CD material. Some of the same CD music plus the SACDs will run via the Denon DVD 3910.

I took reference measurements for the settings that sound best to me at different tweeter levels (left channel shown below) because my wife moved some furniture recently. The cable choice is my home brew set called MultiMag842 (teflon-wrapped, non-stranded: 8x22ga, 4x26ga and 2x30ga from Ratpack Magnet wires, aprox 13ga total.) Ordinarily I use 2x26ga for the tweeters (better extreme highs) but the NAD works better with both tweeter and low panel using the MultiMag842.
