Like Acoustat, their main line has always consisted of full range designs using the same technology differing in the size of the panels (and finishes). Similarly, both companies found the need for a less expensive hybrid model. The current SL hybrid is the Dynastat. As for a sound comparison, I confess that I've not heard the SL hybrid or a M-L design in a while. M-L uses curved diaphragms while SL uses flat surfaces arrayed in a curved pattern. Dr. West (and others) assert that curved diaphragms exhibit uneven tension and are less linear in their response.
