It runs in the family - my mother was diagnosed (via observation in a clinical setting) with sleep apnea. Her mother had the same problem; it was just never diagnosed. Along with the migraines, I inherited the sleep disorder from my mother (my cousin (mother's sister's son) got them too).

When the mainframe computer world collapsed at the onset of Y2K (thanks to media hype and BS), I found myself swimming furiously in a different pool - PC support. My hours expanded dramatically while my income contracted painfully - competition increased furiously, relentlessly. Blah, blah, blah. Anyway, the cost of healthcare (when you're self employed, you get a good view of how much benefits are worth) nearly doubled in one year and continued skyward. Various circumstances led me to seek employment, and I even changed fields somewhat. Unfortunately, the small company for which I work doesn't provide health care (as many small businesses simply can't (it's not really their responsibility either, but that's a different discussion)). Ergo, my wife needed a job - one that included a health care package we could afford.

Since she made her debut in the cult of the time clock punchers, she's been a little more guarded about her sleep. She told me that she couldn't work unless she could sleep and she was finding sleep increasingly difficult with my incessant snoring. Hence, I was booted from the bed, but our couch is nowhere to sleep - each seat is 'sculpted'. So began the buying of inflatable mattresses for the living room floor. Some were better than others – some were more comfortable and some lasted longer. Sleeping in a public area wasn’t easy, especially with a son who kept late hours.

As happens in life, things changed again. My father died from a surgical complication. My son moved out so we’d have a place for my mother – he had wanted to move for quite a while; he was just enjoying the absence of expenses. We bought the house next door and moved my mother and my father in law into it. Now I have a bedroom of my very own, and, although it’s significantly smaller than the bedroom from which I was booted, I moved my bedroom audio system into it. That system has monkey-coffin speakers, but it does include a pair of Stax Lambdas.

I went sparse on the furnishings and restricted the size of the bed to a full. I have a nice chair and I can enjoy that audio system near-field – works well. Since they were my walls, I painted them brown and mounted some media shelves – three (on two walls). They aren’t fancy, but they are all hardwood and built with serious strength in mind – I could climb the things. If I remember correctly, ‘Enchantment1.6s’ has her gunned 1.6s in a bedroom – a really nice system too.

Enjoy your new room.

PS I sat on my ass and typed this when I have work I should be doing. My XO is complete (except that it’s on a temporary base – the plywood will give way to hardwood if I decide to keep it (the XO). I just can’t find the damn wire for the speakers – I ordered ten times what I needed for my first adventure in modding these MMGs (I knew it was going to be a progression). It’s here somewhere, but it isn’t where I thought it was. Of course, I also have the projects in the kitchen eating into my days. Oh well, I’ll find that wire and then configure my MMGs for biamping sans speaker-level XO. I should have something to say by this time tomorrow, but what will that something be?
