Let me just start by saying I have never heard Planar types of speakers before, I've only read about them. I've only used box speakers. I've always wanted a pair of Maggies though just based on all the great reviews I've read the last several years.
My girlfriend told me today that she bought me a pair of Magnepan 2.7QR speakers the other day as a early birthday present, but the person hasn't packaged them and shipped them to me yet.
I was at first very excited and happy about that great gift on it's way, but now the happiness is mixed with nervousness because I'm worried that my room may not be big enough to get great sound from these Maggies.
My lisening room is 13x14 with probably about a 8 foot ceiling.
It's the biggest room in my house, but I don't have anything in it except for a couch, a couple guitars, and a small cart on wheels that my computer monitor sets on.
I have a area rug on the floor and the walls have acoustic treatment on them for absorpttion, auralex tiles, and there's also a couple bass traps, as I usually use this room for mixing down cds in is the reason for all the acoustic treatment.
So considering that my room is acoustically treated, and it's size being 13x14, and the fact that I am free to position the speakers anywhere in that given space when I'm ready to listen to them... What kind of results do you think I will get? Good, Great, Bad, what?
I'm planning on having the speakers 3 - 4 feet from the wall behind them, and 2 feet from each side wall, and that will leave about 4 feet empty space between the two speakers, and when I'm seated on the couch they will be a distance of about 9 or 10 feet from my ears.
Also I will be powering them with a B&K 4420 amp.
I listen to classic rock like the rolling stones & guns n roses & pink floyd as well as Blues like BB King & Etta James for the most part.
Thank you all for your insight & words of wisdom in advance, I appreciate it, I'm happy to be getting my first planar speakers soon but anxious & nervous if they are going to not live up to what everyone says they are given the small room I have and also maybe the modest amp power I have in the 4420.
Thank you.
