I own Magnepan 3.6Rs, and drive them with Bryston 7B-SST C monoblocks (built in 2007) and hot-rodded Quicksilver V4 monoblock tube amplifiers.

I first drove the 3.6s full-range using the Bryston amps. The bass was great, but the midrange and treble sounded "etched". The the ribbon is a VERY revealing driver.

I then drove my speakers full-range using Quicksilver V4s. Wow, what a change mostly for the better! Everything just sounded so much more fleshed out, and listening to music became much more of a joy. Dynamics were lacking, though, and 120wpc vs. 900wpc probably explains a lot. :)

After going active 2-way, I have better dynamics, amazing bass, clear smooth highs. Everything. Well, almost everything. I'm planning to get a pair of pure class A solid state amplifiers for the ribbons. We'll see how that goes. :) :)
