Myself, David Chesky, and Gary Krakow, recently tried about 2 dozen amps between us on Quad 57's, both original and Quads Unlimited rebuilds!
Music reference RM MkI
Music reference RM MkII
Quad QII classic monos
Quad 50E's
Accuphase A30
Madison Sound mono's
VTL Tiny Triodes
Wright Sound Mono 25's
Quad 303 (Gary's)
Marantz Class A PM4
Air Tight ATM 211's
Transcendant T-8 OTL
Audio Research V70 (David's)
Berning ZH270
Bedini 25/25
Heathkit(?)
Dynaco 35
Dynaco70
Leben CS300x
Sugden(?)
Net Audio 303 rebuild (Net Audio's 33 rebuilds are revlatory!)
ASR Emitter I Exclusive Blue (Robin's)
I might have missed a couple!
We want to try Lamm's?
BY far the best amp on the rebuilt Quad 57's, sounding neither like tubes, or like SS, is the........ ASR Emitter MKI Excusive Blue!!!
Mr Chesky says it is the closest reproduction of his composed/performed/conducted/recorded works, he has ever heard!!!
The Quad 303 gets best bang for the buck by a nice margin! (Net Audio's upgrades making a decided improvement)
