Thinking about some Maggie 3.6s...

A local dealer has a great price on some 3.6s. I brought my tube amp in (JoLida 502A with KT90s) to give them a go. Despite what some in the forum (and the dealer himself), I thought the 50W output of the JoLida was more than plenty. We turned them up to 3/4 volume and it was loud enough to be very uncomfortable. During the rest of the listening, I kept them at about 1/3rd volume, which took me to my normal listening level at home.

I was quite impressed with the sound I heard during the auditioning which lasted a couple of hours.

My question is as follows: Do the 3.6s have enough resolving capability to work with higher end upstream components?

My observations on the two were based on comparisons between both my JoLida and the store's transistor amp of some unknown pedigree (it was very expensive, we'll just leave it at that). The tonal differences were absolutely night and day! My JoLida was velvet smooth with a lush midrange. The transistor amp completely lacked the midrange warmth but edged the JoLida out in sheer resolving power.

Given that the differences between the two amps was so stark, it seems to me that I may have answered my own question regarding the level of detail the 3.6s can project. Typically, I've had difficulty discerning between amplifiers and cables in the past, with my perceived differences as being incredibly subtle. I've never heard anything of this level before.

All of this being said, are my observations and assumptions fairly accurate? Are the 3.6s going to be a speaker that will be easily shamed if I were to upgrade to even more revealing upstream components?

Thanks for any info you folks can provide. I appreciate it!
