I used the term "honky" for lack of a better word - let's just say awfully forward midrange. It's hard to say about upstream components, but the midrange character has been virtually the same with many combinations. They are being driven by an Acurus A200 which I don't think is crappy - I have a pair of old AR91s that I have completely refurbished which sound simply stunning in that system. An old Adcom GFA545II sounds pretty much the same except for being less dynamic and a little thinner.

In any case, the new crossover components arrive Monday. I'll know soon enough if it was money well spent.
