Hello Josh,I've owned 2.5R's for 19 years, however never heard 1.5's. If these are anything like 1.6's, then most certainly the 2.5's are worthwhile. Many consider the 2.x maggies the best speakers for value Magnepan ever made. Why they stopped making them is beyond me.
I don't know what you are using for power, but 2.5's like lots of it. 250wpc of high current power, IMO, is minimum for best performance. Also, they really open up in larger size rooms.
If the 2.5's are still stock, I highly recommend up-grading the XO components, binding posts, and doing the fuse by-pass. Spikes are necessary, or better yet have proper stands built for them.
