This is a largish bookshelf speaker that that has 21 inch true ribbon mid/tweeter (from 900hz up I believe) and an 8 inch sealed box mid/bass driver. They look really cool because the ribbon is actually on the inside corner of the speaker (where the corner is sliced away to make it flat.) For a smallish speaker I have heard few that are better.Another idea would be an Apogee Centaur minor. This is a small floorstanding ribbon hybrid. Very good sounding ribbon and while no deep bass, solid punch from the sealed box woofer.
both will give you a sound closer to what you are leaving than a Reference 3a speaker.
