Have you tried the straws alone? I had mine not stuffed enough tightly and the port sputtered the straws on a recording with a strange Vietnamese mega-bass-drum...
Interestingly to my ears the port stuffed with my (black!) socks sounded worse than the open port, less tuneful and up-beat. Maybe i should try green socks, or a piece of meat in the opening for more meaty bass? What do you think, folks?
