Kevin,
So I recently switched over to the high impedance setting a couple weeks ago. Three observations:
1) The gain sacrifice is not incredibly apparent. I'm certainly not missing anything.
2) There is an increased sense of headroom and spacing.
3) The amps has more attack (or sounds slightly "faster", if you will).
Do these results conform to what should be expected?
The only other modification I performed was to add small-value teflon/foil bypass caps across the Jensens. This seemed to increase the HF transient resolution (cymbal decay, tape hiss, LP surface noise, etc..), but I could obviously be imagining things.
I am using new-production Gold Lion KT88s.
The only other change I am considering is going UL for the sake of comparison. If I do that, I'll post what I think.
Thanks for all the assistance thus far. The board just sounds better and better!
