The 5AR4 is only there to provide a turn-on delay / soft start function. The two diodes in the 5AR4 are wired in parallel and, therefore, the marginal situation present in the original isn't replicated in this kit. There are 2 FREDs that do the actual rectification "ahead" of the 5AR4 in the power supply portion of the circuit.
