Last night I replaced the two 6N6p tubes in my line stage.
I had started wondering if I was getting tired of my system, maybe something is wrong and it occurred to me that these tubes are known to not have a long life.
When I got home I replaced them and enjoyed listening to my system for a good three hours. I was quite amazed and pleased by how much I had been missing. I am thinking that from here on I will replace them every six months just to be safe.
As an aside to the fellow who is asking about this device, I am not one to take my gear to others houses or audition strange products in my house. I find all of that useless and one's assessment probably has more to do with how badly you want something new at that moment.
I have listened to quite a few amplification stages in my thirty eight years of being obsessed with music and music reproduction.
I am greatly pleased with my line stage, especially now that it has been renewed. I am embarrassed to say I did not realize how good it was/is!
If you have unlimited funds I guess for five or six thousand dollars you could get something that is "better" and in a MUCH fancier box, but the only thing I could be sure of is that the box would be fancier.
Dave Davenport is a true gentleman of the audio business and if you decide to use his product in your system you will be pleased with your choice from a sonic standpoint and support.
Does anyone offer "selected" 6N6p's? Is the one with the "-i" suffix any better? Would having closer matched "halves" be worthwhile? I would like to know.
As few outlets as there are for these tubes; so far, all I can find are EBAY sellers, I am surprised K&K does not have these listed for sale.
Bye,
Rick McInnis
