Thanks for the answers and I think that I have it now. The real key if connecting the RAKK DAC directly to a buffer or active output stage is the current-to-voltage conversion. If I remember correctly the size of the resistor determines the voltage. I already have a preamp that I want to use as a buffer/active output otherwise I would have gone with the K&K. That being said I have been very happy with the my RACC DAC MkI and I’m looking at the next step for my main system.

I currently have a Bolder modded Squeezebox2 and PS. At the time I made the decision to go with the SB2 only it was after a lot of listening and comparing the SB2/RAKK DAC MkI and the SB2 only that I made the decision to go SB2 only. It was a very difficult decision, because both were so go and the differences were very subtle. Even before that I had a NOS DAC and the RAKK DAC just blew it away, in my opinion.

After reading about the RAKK DAC MkII and the big improvements over the already great RAKK DAC MkI I think that it may be time to get it and use it with the SB2 as a transport.

Also, the RAKK DAC MkI is staying in my headphone setup. It’s just too good to let go.

Brad
