The hard truth we, spoiled americans, have to face is that we are now paying much more for our foreign goods. The subsidized currency era of the '90s and into this century is going away, probably indefinitely. It doesn't help though that this is coincident with serious commodity price appreciation (affects the raw materials for transformers; copper, iron, nickel, etc).
