The max ripple current spec is essentially the power rating of the choke when the choke is used for input filter service without a capacitor "in front". If you are in North America, the situation is a bit better, because for 60Hz power (120Hz ripple) the iron capacity is proportionally higher. Used in the LL1683 power transformer the same core will support 120w of secondary draw without a problem, so this is real.
