Need Advice for Step-up & Marantz 7 tube preamp

Hi Guys!

I have just purchased a Marantz 7 which I lusted for years!
I like it so much that I'm making it the centerpiece of my system.

Previous components included an ARC PH3 phono stage. It was loaded for 47K ohms (factory) and used with a Benz Micro Glider M2 (medium output 0.8 mv) MC cartridge.

This setup worked excellent with plenty of gain.

I want to be able to match or exceed this level of performance with the Marantz.

Right now, when plugging the Glider directly into the preamp's phono input I get good sound, but a little on the thin side. No bass so to speak.

I'm considering several options including the step-up transformer phono stage kit by K&K audio.

I might change the cartridge to a better low output model within the Benz line in the not too distant future.

Therefore, having the ability to adjust the gain is a must.

The total gain of the PH3 was listed as 54 dB meaning it could handle at best medium output MCs.

So, the question is, would the K&K give me performance comparable or superior to the ARC PH3?

Thanks in advance for your help!
