The usual procedure I employ in such cases is to short the signal wires together at various places starting from a location closest to the source. If the hum disappears or is greatly reduced, then I conclude that it impinges on the circuitry upstream of the short.
Once that's established, then I either examine the grounding and/or shielding at that point to see if it's really correct, or, failing this, tinker some.
