Hi all,

I am currently using a couple of 1678's at 1:32 in front of a DIY Hagerman Cornet MM phono stage (about 44dB gain). My cartridge is an original Transfiguration Temper (0.25mV and 3 Ohm internal res).

I have left the 47k input resistors of the Cornet as they were and - if I understood Kevin's math well - my cartridge should "see" about 48 Ohms. Perfectly OK with me: The sound is particularly fine and I have absolutely no nasties, even taking into account that the phono stage drives an all tube system with KHorns.

I am now intending to swap cartridges and use one item with 0.5-0.6mV output, which requires a loading of about 100 Ohms (In this case, I understand I will have to parallel 2x160k resistors to the MM input).

Question is: Do I have to change the setting at the input of the 1678 (i.e. go for a more moderate 1:16, for example...)? I have, in fact, read somewhere that the transformer's performance is somewhat better at 1:32 but - of course - there might also be the problem of overloading the input.

Any relevant experience will be greatly appreciated...
