Location of 1676

Dear Kevin,
Where do you recommend that we mount the 1676 1:1 input transformers? Near the input jacks, or near volume control? My input jacks will be located in the rear of the amp, with wires going from there to the volume control. I could also mount it on the top chassis plate closer to the volume control.
Does orientation matter with these since they are mu metal shielded? They are so small!
